I just started to read “Why Grace Changes Everything” by Chuck Smith. The introduction by Raul Ries has brought back my journey to accepting Christ.
I was a preteen, I remember wanting to read “Joni” by Joni Erickson (now Tada) and the “Cross and the Switchblade” by David Wilkerson. This sparked something in me but I wasn’t sure. Then I became friends with teen a little older than me who introduced me to the Bible. But it would be years later that I made my impassioned plead to the Lord only to backslide a few years later. Then another friend took me to Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia and it was there that I rededicated my life to the Lord. And is there that the Lord has been dealing with my sin through grace until this day. I am a work in progress because I have things that come to light from my past that may hold me from things the Lord has for me.
I am looking forward to reading this book just by reading a short part of the introduction. It may inspire me to write about my own memories as I journeyed to make Christ not only my savior but my Lord.
I have read “Calvary Chapel Distinctives” also by Pastor Chuck. I think I have read or glanced through “Living Water” by him as well. If I haven’t read it, I will be looking for it at my church’s book store.
Distinctives showed me what it meant to be called out to the Lord and whether, I can or cannot lose my salvation. By grace (often used in the book), I don’t see that because Jesus prayed that none that come to him will be lost (yes, that was to the apostles but I think it also covers those of us that call on his name today).
Is there a book or books out there that pointed you in the direction of Christ? Is this what brought you to read the Bible and learn of salvation?
Would you like to know more about my journey to coming to Christ? Would you be willing to share yours?
While doing this, I am asking for prayer to continue my study and writing about the book of Hebrews. I started this almost a year ago but keep allowing distractions to keep me from getting past the first chapter. I know this is what the Lord is calling me to do right now. I am praying to have distractions to not get in the way of my study and need the strength of the Holy Spirit to overcome those distractions.
I thank you in advance for any and all prayers.
